Verleden jaar was er veel belangstelling voor de Turkse opzet, die de vrouwen uit Alsunga bij het doorbladeren van Lekker Warm! tegenkwamen. Ik beloofde dat ik terug zou komen en ze dan deze intrigerende techniek zou leren. Dat hebben we nu, met z’n allen, gedaan en het was een doorslaand succes! Hoewel ik nog wat leuke dingen op het programma had staan, konden de breiers bijna niet ophouden met het breien met de magic loop op de door mij meegebrachte rondbreinaalden. Ondertussen werd gezongen, gesnoept van alle lekkers dat ze mee hadden gebracht en gekletst. Ze hadden allerlei breiwerk meegenomen om ons te laten zien. Tot hun stomme verbazing ontstonden er al snel kleine zakjes, die ze trots aan hun dracht hingen. Zo zie je maar weer, tradities zijn springlevend en passen zich aan aan de omstandigheden, kennis en vaardigheden en dat wat voor handen is.
Last year there was a lot of interest in the Turkish cast on, a technique the women of Alsunga found in Lekker Warm! while browsing the book. I promised that I would come back and would teach them this intriging technique. We, all together, gave this workshop and it was a resounding success! Although I had some nice techniques on the program, the knitters could hardly stop knitting with the magic loop on circular needles brought with me. Meanwhile they sang, tried all the goodies that they had brought along and chatted. They had brought all kind of knitwear to show us. To their astonishment little pouches developed, which they proudly hung on their costumes. So there you have it, traditions are alive and adapt to the circumstances, knowledge and skills and the materials that are is available.
